Williamson Set for Cursing
The sordid minds behind the Scream trilogy have started production on a chilling new Dimension film project named "Cursed", with an intriguing teen ensemble to say the least.
Kevin Williamson can do no wrong. Not content with reinventing teenage
angst cum slasher horror flicks and launching the careers of numerous
actors, the writer/creator of Dawson's Creek, The Faculty,
I Know What You Did Last Summer and the Scream trilogy
teams up with legendary director Craven once again to kick start a whole new
franchse that will have you running for cover.
Storyline details are currently slim but what we can say is that New York
looks likely to be the backdrop to where everything kicks off. And doesn't
it just, when three strangers unite in friendship as they fight for survival
after the city is massacred by a viciously virulent cursed beast (werewolf).
We're guessing that it's going to be a lot more stylised and a lot more
scarier than other werewolf based movies such as An American Werewolf in
London or Teen Wolf, though it won't surprise us if some of
Williamson's tongue in cheek dialogue will make it in there somewhere.
No slasher flick will be complete without the A-list lead and the B-list
supporting cast, and boy have they got us in for a treat. Led by kooky
queen Christina Ricci, the project as also attracted names whom have already
signed on including Skeet Ulrich (Scream), Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie),
Corey Feldman (Lost Boys) and Scott Baio (Happy Days). See... we said it was
very teen.
Fans of Ricci can look forward to a couple of other projects in the pipeline
before Cursed's release including Dreamworks's Anything Else
directed and starring Woody Allen. With a packed cast of Glenn Close, Jason
Biggs and also Danny Devito - Ricci will play the lover of Allen, who is a
struggling artist going through a mid life crisis or something like that.
Cursed, will be Williamson's first film in 3 years since Scream 3, so it
will be interesting to say the least how this original tale will fare
considering one of his last movies, the brilliant Teaching Mrs. Tingle
went straight to video in the UK. The film has already slipped from
August 2003 release to next year, but as Craven and Williamson's work has
always been a cut above the rest having set such a precedent in this genre -
we'll be keeping a close eye on this fanged tale as news rolls out.
