Fahrenheit 9/11 A Box Office Hit
Despite all the negative publicity and naysayers, Michael Moore's latest works seems to be a success.
Fahrenheit 9/11 has opened strongly despite the controversy over its R rating and the ensuing political debate over its subject matter. Michael Moore's documentary earned approximately thirteen million dollars within its first three days of release despite only being shown in 868 theatres. The filmmaker believes all the negative publicity his offering has garnered has worked in its favour, drawing Americans out of their homes and into cinemas nationwide to find out what all the fuss is about.
The documentary has drawn a lot of attention in the run up to its release after ts original distributors, Disney, became anxious of the negative attention it was attracting. Claims flew back and forth over outside interference from interested parties but eventually a different distributor was found and they have now cashed in on their lucky break. Fahrenheit 9/11 drew a wide variety of stars to its premiere including democrats and Hollywood stars against the war in Iraq, Demi Moore caused quite a stir when she proved to be quite vocal about her support for Moore's documentary.
As the film's popularity grows and bickering over its likely political influence in the upcoming presidential elections continues, Moore has been quite happy to bask in the attention. He seems very pleased to have raised awareness on certain issues and says that he hopes that it will help people make their choice in the election. Despite outspoken criticism from some conservative groups Moore bears no ill feelings and has even promised to send them a Christmas card due to the publicity frenzy they have whipped up.
