Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is easily the year's most anticipated films. The final instalment of George Lucas' current Star Wars trilogy, sci-fi fans are hoping the film will finish on a high note. The current trilogy has failed to capture the imagination of movie-goers with the same success as the original, but there are signs that the Revenge of the Sith will bring the series to a masterful conclusion.
As the movie's poster teases, Episode III will mark Anakin's descent [SPOILER:] as he eventually evolves into Darth Vader[SPOILER ENDS]. So many questions remain unanswered and fans of the series will be hanging on the film's every word in a bid to bridge the two trilogies. The dark forces will finally reveal themselves, but familiar faces such as Obi-wan and Yoda will fade into the shadows to preserve the legacy of the Jedi.
The film takes place three years into the Clone Wars and plots Anakin's tumultuous struggle with the dark side. Obi-wan Kenobi has been dispatched on a final mission for the Republic to mop up the rest of the Separatist leaders, but in his absence his pupil is left exposed to a force that has been pulling the strings behind the scenes all the while. With his wife pregnant and the future of the Republic in the balance, the decisions Anakin makes will echo in eternity.
The action scenes of Episode II were simply breath-taking, with Yoda's duel against Count Dooku ranking as the best fight sequence of the year. Although it wasn't until midway through Attack of the Clones that the ball eventually started rolling, Episode II's momentum should carry through to the final instalment, making for one hell of a climax.
Millions of people across the globe are wondering how [SPOILER:] Anakin Skywalker will eventually become Darth Vader[SPOILER ENDS], and if rumours are anywhere near the truth, then Episode III will put both of its predecessors to shame. Expect to see the full extent of the force and be prepared to be mesmerised by its POWER!
All the familiar faces have returned for the conclusion, with Haydn Christensen, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman and Samuel L. Jackson heading up what is sure to be the movie "event" of the year. Some of the movie's stars were visibly moved as they filmed the final scenes, as it not only marked the end of a project, but started a transition in their lives at the same time.
Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Anthony Daniels (C3PO) are synonymous with the series - in fact, Daniels is the only actor to have appeared in all six films. He spoke of his sadness after finishing the shoot, remarking that "it was with moisture - this was very much a fond farewell." His character, C3PO, has made such an impact on his life that Daniels even commented that "he has been a best friend to me." *wipes tear*
Not only will Episode III mark the end of a trilogy, it will mark the end of an era. Since 1977 Star Wars has captivated the minds of millions, grossing untold gold and spawning numerous sequels and spin-offs.
Whether you loved or hated the current trilogy doesn't matter because anyone with a passing interest in Star Wars will surely pay the admission to see the conclusion to one of the most popular films of all time.
